Winter Bass Fishing Roosevelt Lake!

I went bass fishing on New Year’s Eve at Roosevelt Lake in Arizona and caught my first fish of the year on the second cast before I even launched the kayak. It ended up being my biggest smallmouth bass to date, which made the long day completely worth it.

The bite was tough overall, but I managed to catch a few bass including largemouth and smallmouth using a deep diving crankbait and a jerkbait. One of the largemouth was big but skinny, showing how tough winter fishing can be.

Even with slow periods, it was a great way to close out the year. Beautiful sunrise, quiet water, and no skunk — I’ll take that any day.
