THE BIG ONE THAT GOT AWAY | LAKE NORMAN FALL BASS

Ray and I hit Lake Norman in early October for another fun day of bass fishing and friendly banter. The bite was steady with a mix of small and decent bass throughout the day, but the real story came as the sun began to set. I hooked into what was easily the biggest bass of the trip — maybe the season — on a shoal with a Whopper Plopper. For a few thrilling seconds, she was on… until she broke me off, taking my lure and a piece of my heart with her.

We even caught her on video as she leapt from the water trying to shake free — the classic “one that got away” moment every angler knows too well. As the sky turned gold and orange over Lake Norman, I couldn’t help but imagine how perfect the day would’ve been if I’d landed her.

Whether you’re a weekend angler or a seasoned pro, this one will hit home. Join us for laughs, stories, and a sunset reminder that sometimes the best fish are the ones that get away.
