I chased big bass in a Hurricane with this new technique!
A Hurricane coming our way is not something you hear too often hear in Arizona. In today’s video we ventured out to Saguaro Lake to chase giant bass in the remnants of Hurricane Priscilla. The goal today was to learn a technique that’s been all the rage throughout the country but I have not mastered yet. Why we choose to do this in the middle of the strongest storm we’ve had in years will remain a mystery but the catches far outweighed the inconvenience of being wet as far as I am concerned. My way wet boat might say other wise though.
The morning started out by being greeted to a completely empty parking lot. Those that know Saguaro Lake know this is a very rare occurrence. On a typically Saturday the lake is packed to full capacity by 9:00am and the dreaded wake surf boats are out in numbers unmatched anywhere else in the country. This morning was a great break for the norm. As we launched the boat a dense fog begin to lift and we headed off into a light drizzle on completely flat waters. The morning started off hot and the catches began to pile up. We even had some epic frog blow ups which was a nice added touch!
Saguaro Lake is one of the best fisheries on the West coast and the opportunity to catch a giant bass is higher than just about anywhere. We were hoping to connect with one of these but the main mission today was to learn a new technique. This in mind the day ended up being a large success and we went home with some memorable battles and a much greater confidence in a technique I would confider myself to be a large novice at.
What is this mystery technique you might ask? It is referred to by many names but strolling, mid strolling, the jig head minnow, shaking a minnow, and the Damiki rig might ring a bell. We used the Deps Sakamata Shad, Crush City Free Loader and Crush City Mooch Minnow paired on an Owner Range Roller Head for all of our minnow catches today.
