We took on a forgotten Bass fishing gem before it dries up! Bass fishing at San Carlos Lake.
In today’s video we headed out to San Carlos Lake to try another 15 in 5 challenge where we try to catch 15 pounds of bass in 5 hours at a lake we have never been to before. San Carlos Lake has a long history of being an amazing fish producer over the years. Unfortunately it also has a reputation for drying out fairly often and killing all of the fish. This in mind it has pretty much been a memory of the past up until recently. With some good consecutive water years the lake was restocked 3-4 years back and the fish population has rebounded amazingly! Over the past few months there has been quite a few reports of 40+ fish days and many bass over 5 pounds being caught. The lake is known to be very fertile and it has shown its potential for being a big fish producer.
Starting the morning off we picked our licenses up at the San Carlos game and fish office and were on our way to the lake. Launching was pretty primitive but we were able to utilize the Soda Creek launch ramp which was just in the water enough to launch one final time before the lake level was too low to be usable. At the time we were here the lake was down to only 6% and losing about 2 feet per week so it was not looking good for longevity. Boat launched, we were now ready to get started and the hopes were high.
We tried many different techniques today from throwing topwater, crank baits, lipless crank baits, jigs, Carolina rigs and drop shots. Join a long to see how we did and enjoy an unexpected catch we got to experience!
