I received some custom painted wake baits from 3D Printed Lures and they did not disappoint! Join me for a brief tutorial on working bass cover and how to use your rod tip to guide your bait to cover properly. You can find the items I used in the description below.

Fish at the right times:

Fish go on the hunt both early in the morning and in the evening.

Catching fish during their feeding times is a sure way to up your odds in catching more fish on a regular basis I recommend going 30 minutes before sunrise and or 1 hour before sunset and fish until your heart desires but starting at those times alone will up those odd. (Especially good advice for shore fishing)

Become a student of fishing:

What I mean is, do research. Start reading, although videos are great, they are not a good retaining learning tool unless the video strongly focuses on purposeful techniques that you can come back too, but for me reading books and fishing magazines have always been my go too. I still do watch fishing videos as well but for other purposes.

Fish where others aren’t willing to fish:

Make your own trails! Because I travel across the country, I find value in certain fishing apps that help me find areas people are fishing and what is being caught in that area. But I take it a step further, I do not fish the conventional spots (all the time), I look for the area’s others refuse to go through. I wear protective clothing via long pants, long sleeve shirts, neck covering in some cases, a bug deterrent and decent waterproof hiking or fishing boots. I look for depth contours and structure mainly, and when I find what I’m looking for I make trails to get to it. This is a great time to live those days when we watched people on tv in the bush chopping away with machetes to clear paths. So, get out there and start your own path.

Practice, Practice, Practice:

I can’t express this enough, like any sport you need to practice. Practice accurate casting, practice tying knots, practice new fishing techniques etc. Practice is fundamentally important and will help you put more fish in the bucket and one of my favorites I did with my kid’s growing up was putting out a hula hoop in the middle of the yard and practice on casting accuracy. Casting is essential when trying to get into tough spots and you don’t want to lose that expensive top water you just purchased. Also practicing left-handed, overhead casting and side casting. Then get out on the water and practice skip casting as I call it, it’s a good cast to have under your belt when trying to skip under docks for bass or crappie.
