Know your regulations! Some areas are legal, and some are illegal to fish in. In Wisconsin, opening weekend is in May, so before that point, when I was fishing, only certain areas are open for fishing. Also, you can catch and release fish for certain species all year, but some areas are protected from any fishing at all, regardless of catch and release.

I fished a Lake Michigan Tributary for big smallmouth bass, and I found them. Unfortunately, I lost a lure in the process.
