I like to get out for a relaxed day before the season kicks off properly. The reason I do this is to shake the tackle out and blow of the cobwebs of a long winter. I also like to put some new fly patterns through their paces to see if I want to tie batches for my fly boxes.

Being fairly busy of late the only day I could manage was last Sunday. To be fair the weather didn’t look to bad. Sadly it ended up being brutally cold with a bitter northerly wind. The fact I had left my thermal wellies by the door at the house so I wouldn’t forget them did not help my discomfort!

The truth is fishing can be brutal and it doesn’t always live up to our expectations. The good news was nothing was broken and I got to catch up with my old pal Ian Pinder. He will be getting drilled on pressing the record button on the camera though!
