9lb-7oz Lake Robinson GIANT Largemouth!!! Bass Fishing in Hartsville, SC

I caught a giant bass Lake Robinson in Hartsville, SC! (Skip to 1:59) I still can’t believe it and I am truly fortunate and grateful to have been able to land one of these rare monster bass in public lake! The struggle is real and if you keep on the grind, the bass gods eventually reward you hopefully with a catch of a lifetime.

August 26, 2018 – My wife Crystal and I drove out to Lake Darpo from Florence to arrive there at sunrise only to see it gated off. We stayed a few minutes hoping that the groundskeeper would come out at sunup and open the gates. No luck there, so we decided to drive half hour away to Lake Robison, and take the jon boat there for its first trip.

We got on the water at Lake Robinson at 7:45 am and the bites were extremely tough with water temps between 87 and 90 degrees. Crystal caught a bass within the first hour and I missed a blowup on a swimbait burning it by lily pads. A few hours later, we both decided to turn around and head back to the launch.

We fished as we headed back, and on the way noticed a log with a turtle jumping off it, I told my wife make a cast there and she did. I made a cast as well opposite hers and further behind structure. A few seconds later, I felt a bite, reeled in slack and asked her is that line running? I set the hook and it was fish on!

We photographed, measured, and released the giant bass safely back into the lake. It measured at 9.44 lbs at 25.5 inches with an 18 inch girth.

Caught on a Texas rigged Zoom Bait Company 6″ Lizard (Black), pegged with a 3/8ths oz. Tungsten weight. Used my Dobyns Rods Fury FR735C mag-heavy rod paired to a Shimano Curado 200e7 reel spooled with 14 pound test Stren monofilament line.

  1. I caught my personal best last December on a chatterbait. It weighed 7.36 pounds and wasnt very fat at all. I wish I could see that fish again but I only had it out of the water for about 15 seconds because I didnt want to hurt a fish that size. I didnt even have it out of water long enough to get a good look at it.

  2. This video reminds me so much of when I broke my PB. I had fished hard for a year and a half and the biggest fish I had caught was about 3.5. I was out fishing in February with my buddy trying out a jerkbait for the first time after watching a tactical bassin video. We were about 10 minutes into the day and I was fishing a smithwick rogue over a flat about 6 feet deep that was near deep water, and I felt a tiny tick on my bait when it was completely paused. I set the hook and told my buddy "I've got one. nothing big though." when drag just started screaming all of a sudden. I had 10b fluoro on, but thankfully the drag was weak enough to not allow the line to snap. After the fish took a long hard run, I caught up to it and it charge the boat. It never jumped, but the water was clear enough for me to see that I had hooked a fish that was about 3 times bigger than anything I had ever caught before. My buddy reached over the boat to grab him (no net) and it seemed like he was reaching around for it forever. Eventually, he lifted up my first ever trophy bass. It had to be between 9-10 pounds, but I didn't have a scale with me. That fish got me hooked on fishing, and I always carry a scale now-haha! I have yet to catch a fish that big again. I caught one that was 8.55lbs, but it was nowhere near as round as my first ever trophy. I have a video of the release on my channel!
