Pegging the weight helps get hung up less.
The only thing bad about Rist pops are you can be the yank and the bait away from the fish right before it goes to strike but sometimes they only hit off of reaction strikes sometimes just dragging it but slowly popping it while you're dragging it.

I've pretty much always fished a texas rig for soft plastics but I can say I've never pegged the weight.
Whacky rigs are my favorite and Texas rigs are my second favorite
You can do like wise with a drop shot. Drag sighly pop it as it gets stuck. Let it pause 5 to 10 seconds then do a slow drag and pop. Let rig settle 5 to 10 seconds.

I noticed in the chatterbait retrieve video, you were using a left hand retrieve reel. In this video, you are using a right hand retrieve. Any special reason for that?
I fish a top water spider in clear water that can occasionally sink , I have watched fish stare at it, but as soon as I pop or twitch that spider they hit and hit hard.

Hey Matt! Love the channel. What would you suggest as a best all around bullet weight for fishing a Texas rig in ponds?
Hawgs, senkos, craw daddies… here is so cal, the bass strike at un predictable pops and jerks.
You just gave away my secrets lol might as well share; Another retrieve is several wrist pops as you slow stroke to the top of a pull then let it sink to the bottom. Sometimes I use 8 or 10 wrist pops per pull. #feelthetug
