80°F In October?! The Fall Bass Transition Is Broken…

An unseasonably warm 80°F heatwave in October completely broke the traditional fall bass transition on Potholes Reservoir. This was supposed to be a multi-day tournament grind, but sudden reality forced a major change of plans.

With the water drawdown sitting 2 feet from it’s lowest pool of the year, the willow trees are completely high and dry. The largemouth have zero shallow grass left to hide in, forcing them onto the bare main lake sand lips and deep channel floors near Crab Creek. Combine low pool conditions with a blazing 80-degree October sun, and the bass were stuck in a total seasonal identity crisis.

This video covers the full 11:38 timeline of our Day 1 tournament strategy, grinding under bright summer skies, and scrambling to lock down a low-pool matrix. Unfortunately, Day 2 came to an abrupt halt when a sudden illness hit me hard this morning, keeping me off the water and cutting my tournament short.

The boat will be hitting the shop for winterization soon but the content doesn’t stop. Stay tuned all winter long for weekly Hoss Unhinged memes!
