My Profile:
http://www.mattstefanfishing.com/
I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I’ve been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I’ve qualified for ten MLF Championships and won almost a million dollars in tournament winnings at the professional level.
Could tell us your top few stunna jerk colors. Thanks for all the info. Hope I get to meet you at the classic.
Last couple years, 7-9" soft jerkbaits have been my top producer in spring…specifically 7" white Googan Dart w/ a 9" white Slug-go also adding a couple trophies in Ohio…Big baits- Big Bass
I like to go big. Ad is to long tho.
Tube Jigs and Arctic Spinners are my go to for pre spawn.
I'm traditionally a catfish angler but I've gotten so good at it that it's lost pretty much all meaning I basically have it down to a science all the way down to the migration patterns throughout the river at different times of the year.
So I can literally catch catfish whenever I want so this year I decided to switch down to a light set up with 10 lb braid and a 8 lb leader and go after smaller species of fish like panfish, rainbow trout, and smaller bass species like white bass and smallmouth bass just to give myself a new challenge and put fresh new coat of paint on this hobby I call fishing LOL.
Thx Matt. No cranks?
Dont forget the old and trusty spinnerbait. Wind blown flats and points
Great Video once again
I throw the Z man weedless chatter bait with the weed guard all the time.
I catch big speckle trout and all size redfish on a lipless with the rattle though
Matt you should try the yamamoto sonar shad with the hover rig
Suspending jerkbait is pretty much always #1 for me and I aint that picky on which one either as long as it suspends correctly. I will say that majority of my bigger fish (6+ pounds) come on an older XPS full size suspender. I cant explain why but it has by far the loudest rattle of all the ones I use so maybe that has something to do with it. I will also say that the line gets tangled more in the front hook with that bait than any other jerkbait I use but it puts fish in the boat so I can live with it.
I'm waiting to get a fake stick of dynamite and light a sparkler to hand it to somebody and ask them are you going to stand there or are you going to fish. Anyways thank you for all your tips.
I love tossing my jigs. Cranks are fun. Jerkbaits are so much fun. Glad to know I'm on the same page.
Good video Matt.
Just a question about the zman chatterbait with the Berkley trailer… does the chatterbait skirt melt to the Berkley trailer(s) that you’re using? My favourite pre spawn bait is a worm presentation; sometimes larger and sometimes very tiny depending on water conditions and how aggressive the bass are.
Good video Matt and Good advice
Thanks Matt
Thanx Matt. I fish tidal most of the time and the jerkbaits not much of a player. Chatterbait, spinnerbait, rage bug and powerworm never come off. Mini jig, lippless.
I hate those flash trix work so well at the cost! Good video. Hope your wife doesn't look at your comments section before you can clean it up
Love it
Try the “Super” and even larger “Fathom” tunsten slotted beads. The super size will fit nicely on a Gamakatsu Big River jig hook owing to the hook’s small barb. The new fathom sizes are huge: 8mm, 9mm & 10mm. The 10mm slotted bead weighs over 1/4 Oz and fits on my Gamakatsu thin wire jig hooks to my largest 4/0 size. I remember you did a piece sometime ago about recycling tungsten jig heads. Newsflash… The slotted beads can be match with whatever hook size you need for however you want to stroll. No need to carry so many size/weight combos. You can dial-in what you need on the water. Gone are the days of playing with Toxic Lead and the Toxic white Lead Oxide dust that forms when Lead stays wet and/or corrodes. The beads tie up a mean marabou jig, too.
1 SENKO
2 flip / pitch
3 drop shot
4 Chatterbait
5 square bill
In no particular ORDER for hunting pre spawn SLOBS
Wow, you have quite the fan club
Matt, I agree with your choices. I would add a Compact Flip/Pitch Jig, Floating Minnow (Rapala etc.) & Ozark Rig 1/8oz 4/0 with a BPS 6" Stik-O. Matt, I consider myself a skilled bass fisherman but, the Ozark Rig takes very little skill to master. I highly recommend it for all anglers. If I catch half as many bass as I did last year with it I will be happy. NE KS – NW MO area.
Great video!!! Thanks for sharing those awesome tips!!!! Stay Safe & God Bless!!!
