The ChatterBait bladed jig has quickly become one of the most productive tournament baits of all time thanks to its fish-triggering ability and extreme versatility. Pro bass angler, Brett Hite, is one of the ChatterBait OGs and credits the bait to over 1 million dollars in tournament winnings. He shares the top 3 reasons why ChatterBaits excel for the average angler to tournament pro, the best gear for fishing the bait (rod, reel, line, and trailers), and the biggest avoidable mistake that leads to lost fish.
TACKLE USED:
• Z-Man Evergreen ChatterBait JackHammer: https://wired2.fish/ChatterBaitJackHammer
• Yamamoto Zako: https://wired2.fish/ZakoSwimbait
• Yamamoto Kickin Zako Swimbait: https://wired2.fish/YamamotoKickinZako
• Daiwa Steez A TW Casting Reel, 6.3:1: https://wired2.fish/DaiwaSteez-A-TW-CastingReel
• Evergreen Brett Hite Combat Stick Casting Rod, 7’3″ Heavy Glass: https://wired2.fish/EvergreenCombatStickCastingRod
• Sunline FC Sniper Fluorocarbon: https://wired2.fish/SunlineSniper
Hite equates ChatterBait action to a lipless and squarebill crankbait combined – a tight wiggle and intense vibration coupled with excellent deflection characteristics is a proven trigger for bass. But unlike trebled baits, you can fish ChatterBaits in cover types and depths you can’t effectively fish other reaction baits. Whether you’re an experienced ChatterBait angler or new to the technique, you’re bound to find some useful and interesting information in this video.
OTHER TACKLE USED (as seen in video b-roll):

A crankbait with a 5/0 gamakatsu hook in it. Or you could fish it on mono.
awesome vid.
This rod is the BEST ! Caught a 20+ lb snakehead bass fishing along with a 12lb 6oz and this rod . Thank you for making one of the best rods on the market !
Absolutely is a big fish bait. I was a little slow to catch onto them but now five over seven pounds this year. Thunder cricket or a jackhammer.
Really good video. I will say I think location plays a factor…I've had the best success this year with a Jackhammer on a 7' medium-heavy fast action graphite rod. Shad presentation/imitation seems to work the greatest for me as well. Chatterbait definitely is what truly gives me the most confidence and love it.
I caught my biggest bass in my profile picture a 10 lber on a chatterbait
I’m a believer in it now than I was about 3 years ago when I finally picked one. Now I got a box full of jackhammers and other variants of it now 😂
Wait a minute – You need a glass rod for a bladed jig because of the direct connection but what about other jigs? They're a direct connection too and last I check most of the rods used for those are heavy power with fast or extra fast action graphites. What gives?
WOW! you are awesome, thank you for your contribution to the sport of hunting for big bass . I hadn't been on vacation for 4 years I took a trip to Douglas lake for a weeks vacation and my 2nd week is back home I bought a Colorado XT modified it and added a trolling motor got to the lake house I rented for a week and then on the 2nd day caring my battery to the rig on the dock I slipped stepping on to the dock and really bruised my leg bad I'm 60 and it swelled up pretty bad but I was stubborn and bit the bullet fished for 6 days and did not catch a thing , my confidence was shattered, I went back home to spend my 2nd week trying to ice my leg and do some local fishing still with no luck It's now Friday and my last 2 days of fishing vacation Today (Friday) I came across your Jack hammer chatter bait video's I drove over to Dicks sporting goods and bought 2 of your 3/8 oz. jack hammer Green Pumpkin and the fish trailer when I was heading home there was just enough sun light to stop at a local retention pond, I just wanted to see and most of all feel /cast not expecting to catch any thing, on the 3 cast Bam about a 2 pounder then the next cast BOOM a larger one but I didn't set the hook good and didn't land him over the next few casts almost every time I got hit and landed a few more all around 2+ pounds … WOW thank you thank you so much its brought my confidence back. I'm heading out to the local Rez first thing in the morning there is 5 and 6 pound bass in there. I'm confident enough to maybe have some fish story's to tell when I get back to work on Monday I'll be still limping but at least I can say I won the battel , hopefully
take care, Regards Charlie
You will also catch pike on it as well, I caught a small pike on my first time using a chatter bait it was the stealth blade actually and 4 days ago.. thank you Bret.. and I did use a white zako trailer with it.. and I was fishing clear water up here in MN..
I wonder if we’ll ever see a 1/4oz jackhammer. I’d definitely buy as many in that size as I do in the others 😂
Just caught my PB 7.8lb on a chatterbait in Michigan a few days ago. Definitely a winner for me!
Y'all better have your fire craw jackhammers ready lol
Love a chatterbait. It's TRUE I've caught some pigs on it.
I have a medium action Diawa Elimator graphite 6'6 rod with a Quantum Pulse 6 to 6 to 1 baitcaster on it. I use a Chatterbait in Chartreuse and white 3/8 oz with a 'Spike it' Chartreuse dyed fluke trailer with garlic scent. Its November and 75 degrees. That Chatterbait killed them largemouth. Caught many bigger bass. 4 and 5 pounders. I also tried White Chatterbait with a White fluke trailer. It catches them just as well in Clear water. The grass is still green here in Indiana. So I rip it threw the grass. Bam! They hit it hard! I use 30 pound Suffix 832 in moss green color. I spray Crawdad Bang scent every 3 casts. This is a killer combo for me. If the Chatterbait don't work. Chartreuse spinner bait double willow blades. Is mu back up. Shawn.
The Chatterbait and Whopper Plopper both work great when summer night fishing for bass. If one doesn't work, I try the other. Simple steady retrieve so they can home in on it. Catches big ones!
Chatter bait is the one lure I’ve yet to catch a bass with. It’s not for a lack of trying either. I’ve gone entire days throwing just chatter baits of different styles and colors. Haven’t gotten a single bite on them
Why does it need to be literally twice the price 20 bucks is alot for one bait
The jawbreaker by Advantage Baits is my favorite bladed jig on the market
Love chatterbaits but I lose way to many fish on a glass rod, I hardly ever lose them on a graphite rod, I like a med fast action the best!
I don’t know Brett, I didn’t know any better and have always fished it on a MH graphite rod. When a friend told me I’ve been using the wrong rod and I switched to a more moderate action crank-style rod, I’ve never lost more fish ever! Still sticking with it though…
