One misconception that a lot of people live by in the fall is find the bait and you will find the bass. Honestly, there is some truth here but there is also a lot of mistruths here.

There are a ton of baitfish in the fall and they can be found everywhere, so there is also bass everywhere and sometimes they are not relating to the small baitfish, but sometimes they want the bigger baitfish.

Also with there being so much bait in the water, sometimes I think that matching the hatch is a little bit overrated. Sometimes you will catch more bass by standing out from the bait.

BassFishingHQ is dedicated to teaching people how to catch more and bigger bass. I will go over different bass fishing tips & techniques that will put more fish in the boat or on the shore. Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned tournament angler, my goal is to help you catch more bass.

  1. I love this channel. As a fairly new fisherman, I use videos like these a lot. For a long time I watched another channel religiously, no need to call 𝚃hem out 𝙱ut it started to feel like where just selling lures from 𝐓heir links 𝐁elow. This channel is really teaching me about bass fishing in a realistic way. Not always saying what is popular, but speaking from experience. Keep up the good work!! Most importantly, thank you!

  2. My strategy is fish a different bait and if the bass aren’t butting then I will match the bait fish. I can’t t the majority of bass on green/white pumpkin but I also catch bass with blue/red or purple/black worms too so it really all depends on how you fish it in my opinion.

  3. I feel like Michigan fall fishing is not the same as other areas in the United States. It’s much colder. I feel like they just disappeared. Any feedback?

  4. I agree with thrwing something completely different (Unmatch the hatch). My best catches were with something that the fish either never seen before or just plain different from all what's in the water. Try it boys it works!!!

  5. The Mis match color is so true at the lake I fish my cousin always tells me to fish shad because of how much shad there is but I threw a bluegill color and got bit better, it was just so different from all the shad they usually see

  6. I've read all the books and followed Tyler and all the other social media experts, pros, and enthusiasts. Honestly, bass fishing is ultra dynamic and often Atypical. Just keep changing up tactics and baits until you find what works. Sometimes matching the hatch is IT…other times being different works. My advice is get good at all presentations, techniques and skills, especially when it comes to throwing accuracy and bite detection and invest in every lure in the market because that's the fun in Bass Fishing!

  7. I am all about that bass and you can sure catch em I made a bass video lately caught over 50 smallmouth bass I 2 hours mostly around 12 inches but it was a great day but now with winter approaching all I can do is watch others fish lol I would do ice fishing but I am only 15 so I can’t drive to a spot!

  8. Idk just my experience but finding bait and matching the hatch has always worked well as a starting point for me. Then make adjustments as needed. I like a big single Colorado bladed spinner bait that makes a lot of thump in the fall. I also think it’s important to find bait in the right place drastic temperature changes can count out shallow water. I like deeper water near points with bait whether on the main lake or up a creek the more stable temperature can make a huge difference.

  9. This was perfect! I learned that matching the hatch is not always the case when catching bass. I was actually switched from a shad pattern lure to a more vibrant color and it was an instant hit. You are on point with that. Great video.

  10. When you said chartreuse black back… It immediately caught my attention because I have two of the 13 fishing jabberjaw's tied on right now, one in chartreuse black back and one in chartreuse powder blue.. because I agree with you throwing something white that blends in with all the bait fish that are the exact same color Yes can get you some bites but standing out from The bait fish I think gets you more bites because it's more of a reaction because it's something different but the same size as the bait fish.. and by the way if you haven't tried throwing that jabberjaw by 13 fishing you are missing out bro.. Jacob wheeler has a great video on it and there's so many things you can do with that bait it's more like a square bill but the bill of it is metal and you can bend it to make it go deeper or to keep it just under the surface, it's like no other square Bill I've ever fished and it has a really really good hunting action.. it can be tight or it can be wide wobble, it's a wild bait bro you need to check it out! I'm pretty sure you have a handful already or you've already thrown it once or twice but if you haven't, definitely get a couple.. they're expensive but they're worth it.. stay safe tight lines

  11. A LOT of stuff has been said, and taken, as gospel, in bass fishing, that simply isn't true, I find. I see it all the time. Just off the top of my head: "A longer rod gives you more leverage". This runs totally counter to everything I was taught, in Physics class. A fishing rod is a lever. Our hand resides at the fulcrum, and the bass is pulling on the end of that lever. The longer the lever, the LESS leverage we have at the fulcrum, not MORE. "Match The Hatch" is another classic example, of course, for the very reasons you gave.

  12. Can’t tell you enough how much I enjoy watching a point of view from a fellow buckeye. Don’t PC your content for the snowflakes bud just be you and share your view. Would love to see a little more smaller spectrum like alum creek creek or licking river for some smallmouth. If you need help reach out lol

  13. Honestly Tyler your niche is speaking against all of the “mainstream” bass fishing topics we’ve all heard which aren’t correct a lot of the time . Keep it up

  14. Dude I always learn so much from your videos. Thanks for the Awesome content. Let me know if you ever get down here to Kentucky bro. I plan on some Ohio trips, next spring and summer!!

  15. I needed to hear this video. I've been wanting to make videos for a long time I started recording videos about 3 weeks ago but was having second thoughts so haven't done anything but record raw footage but I'm definitely going to start putting together some videos. Thanks man I always learn something on this channel .

  16. Lots of great info here Ty and the group. Fall is not when I match the hatch. And just 2 weekends ago we were river fishing in 57 degree water and it moved up to 60 by trips end. Making the milk run and using different baits was key to the smallies we caught. Saw lots of bait fish, yep but fleeing bait fish spots were more productive. And I don't think my white/chartreuse spinnerbaits looked exactly like the shad or shiners. 5 different lures took fish

  17. Had a great example of "mismatch the hatch" in our fall classic a couple years back. My partner and I located a school of fish feeding in the back of a creek arm and it was THICC with shad in there. We tried every "match the hatch" bait we could think of, nothing. Finally I thought I'd try something different to stand out from the crowd. Ended up tying on a 200 bandit in the color 'mistake' (its wild if you havent seen it) and started crushing them from the first cast. Don't be afraid to get a little crazy, it works!!

  18. Good info, I like your thinking. I’ve been getting frustrated with tons of bait and can’t catch anything. Your 100% right in what everyone says, match the hatch, find bait find bass. Good video. Thanks

  19. 1. I never assume there’s bass around if I just see baitfish, but I almost always assume bass are around if I see FLEEING baitfish.

    2. For every time I hear “match the hatch “, I hear someone else say, “ you gotta throw something at these bass they haven’t seen”.

  20. To put the match the hatch misconceptions in relation to deer hunting… when deer are feeding on almost nothing but acorns deep in the woods, you’re not gonna put out a bait pile of acorns on the edge of the field you’re hunting, no you’re gonna put a big pile of corn or plant a food plot of beans and peas to get them on something different. It’s not a direct comparison but it’s how I make sense of it lol

  21. Maybe the fish hasn’t moved in there with bait yet , no reason saying there aren’t any bass around that’s wrong thing to tell your subs , maybe search to find the bass.

  22. Awesome video, just became a subscriber and watched a few already haha Do you have any tips of fishing deep quarries or reservoirs? Tough time this year for myself in Northeast Pennsylvania, goes to 200ft deep.

  23. I do a couple things depending how I’m feeling and/or if I don’t know exactly the ‘hatch’. I’ll start with a confidence color and if it doesn’t work, I’ll work more to the hatch. Sometimes I start with the hatch and move away from it. Either way I’ve learned that it doesn’t always make sense why a bait gets bit. Just have to get it out there.

  24. Great tip on standing out instead of looking like tha bait fish and i have had success doing this. Just like you said and I agree .when you match tha hatch I believe sometimes you can get lost in tha mix!

  25. I also wanted to mention I’m a huge fan of your videos. Always giving good tips, well organized and eloquently related ALOT of info, and my favorite thing, you’re not trying to sell me anything (which is so rare) thank you tyler
